I’ve been interested in cooking since I was a greedy student who wanted good food but couldn’t afford to eat in restaurants. I was brought with a very traditional west of Scotland diet (plain food, lots of puddings) so I welcomed the chance to try what was then exotic ingredients such as garlic and chillis.

When I was a regular visitor to Edinburgh on business, I used to eat out a lot and I wrote some Edinburgh restaurant recommendations. But these were overtaken by TripAdvisor and I don’t eat out so much now that I’m not dining on expenses. There are (or will be) a couple of articles here on restaurants but nothing comprehensive.
