The West Highland Way was Scotland’s first official national trail. It opened in 1980 and runs for 96 miles from Milngavie, outside Glasgow, to Fort William. It passes through some magnificent scenery and it now incredibly popular - rather too busy for my liking, especially in the summer. I’ve done it twice - once alone and once with my daughter Jane.
